mhbMichael has been a licensed radio amateur since 1984, shortly before his thirteenth birthday. His father (K8HLB, ex WB8LPN, KB8PZ) was very active in those days, and Michael used to sit in the shack and listen to his dad bang out CW at what seemed like an impossibly fast speed.

Thus, Michael’s fascination with radio was born. He got his Novice class license on his second attempt at taking the test and was rewarded with his first call (KA8UTP) and his very own QSL cards. You couldn’t tear him away from the shack after that! In 1986, he upgraded to General, and a new call (N8GWR). Again, in 1986, he upgraded to Advanced class (KE8FC).

In 2000, while preparing to take the Extra class license exam, Michael wrote a web based application that generated written practice exams. These were designed to closely simulate the real thing. The online practice exams can be found here.

Michael is a life member of the ARRL and a certified ARRL VEC Volunteer Examiner.
